February is the most joyful and colourful month in Kuwait where the weather is beautiful, long weekends, streets decorated with flags and lights and shops buzzing with flag dresses, accessories and every corner of the country is filled in a holiday vibe.
All these
celebration are to highlight the National and Liberation Day falling on
February 25 & 26.
Feb 25th is the day when Sheikh Abdullah was named as the Emir of Kuwait in 1950 and Feb 26th signifies the Kuwait’s liberation from invading Iraqi forces in 1991.
Until 1962,
Kuwait used to celebrate its National Day on June 19, but in the following year
they changed the date to February 25 in order to avoid the hot weather of the summer..
As February in Kuwait is a spring season, so we spend these holidays in outdoors.
For me
personally, Hala February is very close to my heart as it brings back all my
childhood memories in celebrating it in school where we would dress up in flag colors and
pairing them with matching earrings and bracelets 😄. And for the whole day the
national songs will be playing in the school ground with us singing and dancing
to those tunes. Oh what a beautiful day it was !
Not only
that, after the school celebration the next 2-3 days will be a holiday where we
will have a family friends gathering to Messila Beach, Wafra farms, Khiran
Resorts and Ahmedi Garden for making the special barbeques ourselves and ending the evening with a water fight.
This month
passes like a beautiful breeze and even though I’m an Indian but Kuwait has
separate place in my heart and this festival awakes the patriotism in me for
the land I grew up and made me for who I am today.
Long Live Kuwait, my second home !!
Wishes to my readers for a happy and prosperous National &
Liberation Day and wishes to make your Hala Festival memorable !!
