Imagine its a sunny afternoon and you walk across the street catching the sight of a slowly cooking meat facing the grill on the side and slowly turning on its fixed axis, and you go near the shop and order it for you and see the thin slices of meat being scraped and packed into your fresh Khubus with the right amount garlic sauce, pickles and fries....hmm, what a sight!
No wonder that Shawarma is the king of Arabian street food and the ultimate comfort food !
Being grown in Gulf, Shawarma has an inseparable space in our hearts & minds. Sometimes its not only on the taste of food but also the emotions and the memories attached with it.
Even though we get it many parts of the world today but only the Shawarma in the Middle East is the authentic Gold. 💫
This popular street food has originated from the Ottoman Empire around the 18th century with its name coming from the Turkish word "Cevirme" which mean 'to turn'. If we have to give thanks to someone for giving us this delicious dish, then it would be to the person Iskender Efendi, who rolled the world's first Shawarma in Turkey in the late 1800s.
OK now that's enough of history. So, are you not feeling hungry after reading this ? Then go grab yourself some Shawarma and don't forget one for me 😜.
